Hi, my name is Noemi and I’m a student at Linnaeus University. I am conducting a survey on fans and their creative practices in fandoms.
The purpose of this survey is to inform academic research on fix-its in fandom. The data collected through this survey are part of my thesis about where fix-its can be found. They exist not only fanfiction, but also in art, vids, games, cosplay, and other fan-made media. My project explores these different types of media to understand how and why fans create fix-its.
Your participation in this survey would be an opportunity to share your valuable insights on fan culture and fan creativity. Everyone has their own origin story for the fandoms they are passionate about. My project seeks to celebrate those stories and give voice to the diversity of experiences that can be found in every fandom.
If you agree to participate, the survey will ask about your experiences consuming or creating fix-its. The questions are designed to explore the different media types (e.g. fic, art, vids, gifs, cosplay, etc.) that fans use in fandom spaces. The questions also touch on how fans engage with fanon content compared to canon content, whether a fix-it might affect a fan’s interpretation of the source material, and how fans navigate different opinions within fandoms.
Any quotations or information obtained via this survey will be reported anonymously, with no attribution to any specific individuals. The results of this survey will only be used for a master’s thesis in comparative literature. The data provided by participants will be saved through secure software and processed until the thesis has been completed. The survey will not collect any personal data, such as IP address or name, which can be used to identify the respondents. After the requirements of the thesis are fulfilled, the data will be deleted. The thesis itself will be made available online via the university depository.
The survey should take you 20-25 minutes to complete. Your participation is voluntary and you do not have to answer any question that you do not want to. You may withdraw from the survey at any time, and for any reason. You always have the right to request information about what has been registered about you and to comment on the processing of the data that has been collected.
